Volunteer Opportunities

Help our Community!

Cook dinner for a residential program

Our residential clients stay with us for weeks, months, and often years as they are treated for mental health and substance use challenges. They become part of the TOA family, often because they don’t have a family of their own. Our programs are in Portland and South Portland and have between 8 and 12 clients at a time.

Preparing a meal and dining with the residents helps them recognize that people care about them. It also gives the program staff much-needed time to have team meetings and take care of other important business. This can be done once or as a recurring visit and is great for groups of 2-4.

Help with administrative tasks

There are never enough hands here at TOA and many of our programs need help filing and organizing. This is a great project for individuals and small groups.

Host a diaper drive at your company/ school/ baby shower

Imagine only being able to change your baby’s diaper once a day to make it last until your next paycheck. For an average infant, a healthy change of diapers is up to 12 times per day, and 8 for a toddler. Currently, there is no safety net program (WIC, Food Stamps, Medicare) in place that pays for diapers.

Diapers are a crucial basic need for Maine’s families and are the most requested item all year long. Help keep your littlest neighbors safe and comfortable by donating diapers and wipes to TOA today!

Cleaning, gardening & painting facilities

There’s always so much to do! This volunteer opportunity is a good fit for a small- large group of volunteers.

Paint a mural

If you are a professional artist, we would love your help brightening TOA spaces for clients and the community.
