Senior Companion Program
The Senior Companion Program is one of the National AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer programs, funded by AmeriCorps and sponsored locally by The Opportunity Alliance in York and Cumberland counties. Since 1974, Senior Companions have provided assistance to older adults who have difficulties with tasks of daily living that help them remain living independently.
Examples of Senior Companion activities include:
Visiting clients in their homes providing socialization and companionship, and/or respite for caregivers
Offering transportation to essential errands such as medical appointments and grocery shopping
Assisting with accessing community resources
Sharing a meal together, taking a walk in the neighborhood
Eligibility Requirements:
Be age 55 or older
Provide documentation of a physical exam from a medical professional that certifies applicant is capable, with or without accommodation, of volunteering without detriment to themselves or the people they serve
Pass all criminal history and background checks
If interested in receiving the stipend, income must meet income guidelines set by AmeriCorps
